　　since the founding of the Republic of China

　　我们在抗战中

　　and the fifth

　　过新年

　　New Year's Day

　　今天已是第五个

　　that we have spent

　　年度了

　　at war.

　　自从去年十二月九日

　　Since our declaration of war

　　我们对抗日正式宣战

　　against Japan and the Axis powers

　　并对德意两国同时宣战以后

　　on December 12 of last year,

　　我们的抗战已进入了一个新的阶段

　　our war of resistance has entered a new phase

　　而中日战争

　　and China's war with Japan

　　已转变为世界的战争了

　　has become a world war.

　　此后，我们中国的使命

　　The duty of China

　　更见重大

　　is now all the greater,

　　我们全体军民的任务

　　and the burden of our people and our army

　　亦更见艰巨了

　　is all the weightier.

　　我们应该有新的认识和新的努力

　　We must renew and redouble our efforts.

　　当此新年第一天

　　On this first day of the new year,

　　我要对我们全体同胞

　　I will discuss with the public

　　说明我们抗战过去与现在

　　the past,present,

　　以及将来的结果

　　and future of this war.

　　过去半年来

　　Over the past half-year,

　　尤其是这一个月以来

　　and particularly the past month,

　　抗战形势和从前是完全不同的

　　our war of resistance has changed utterly.

　　过去我们是单独奋斗

　　Before, our was a solitary struggle

　　在国境以内

　　within our own country.

　　抵抗日寇

　　against the Japanese invaders.

　　现在我们已经和英美苏联

　　Today, we have joined Great Britain, the United States,

　　与其它各友邦

　　and Soviet Union

　　安危一致

　　and other friendly nations

　　并肩作战

　　in fighting side by side

　　来彻底的消灭人类的公敌

　　to rid the world of our common enemies.
